Another 2 comments that I received on my Youtube channel were saying about creating a fashion collection inspired by under the sea life and universe. In this video, this is what inspired me.
The ability to communicate ideas through drawing is essenial for designers. Fashion sketches are made to visualize the proportions, details or textures and color of the garment but also it is a way of expressing your individual style and personality. So use the tools you like more and use them to make your drawings beautiful. Unique illustration styles are like a trademark of the designer. The style is as valuable as the design content in a portfolio.
Watercolors, pencils, markers, ink or collage and in fact any rendering media you would use should complement the feel of a specific collection. For the under the sea collection I felt inspired by the brush tip and these beautiful blue shades offered by Art and Graphic twin markers I just bought. When studying any source of information, you should gather all the info needed in a book: notes, sketches, photos, collages of all kind. For me, this time, it was not the case. In time, you will be able to have them all in your mind and it will be enough just to look at an image and start creating.
The creative process is something that you can learn, and once that you are used to it, it becomes like riding a bicycle, as my teachers said. You will have it in your blood and never forget. The more you see, the more creative you will be, so start going to exhibitions of all kind, read, travel, see things and feel them. Experience a lot and you will see how easy it will be for you to just press a button to release the fire inside you.
I will tell you know about the media and the rendering with markers part. You can choose from multiple brands and try to buy a few colors from each brand to see which one suits you better. I love a certain brand of markers because they have brush tips or they are transparent and they allow me to work in transparent layers that are overlapped. Other brands offer me a range of edges: from small to large and wide.
They leave graphic lines and they are very creative in lines, so i love them. Volume and textures can be obtain when applying layers and layers or blenders to make smooth transitions between strokes. Markers are usually applied over a pencil drawing but you can try to sketch with them directly on the page without having a drawing, if you are confident.
If you will later on need the contrast, you can always use a colored pencil or an 8B pencil to put some accents here and there. For the universe theme, what is new is that I used paper pen for my first drawing. It is like a pencil but instead of having graphite, it has paper. Use it if you want to make smooth gradients like I did.
Now enjoy my second and third drawing and try to do the same exercise using my sources of inspiration. What is important to notice is the fact that anything can inspire us and also the fact that no matter the challenge, a fashion designer should come with ideas.
Good luck with your drawings and enjoy what you do!
See you next time but until then, thanks for subscribing!
